Hispanic-Latino Club Hosts Autism Seminar. The
Argonne Hispanic-Latino Club hosted a seminar entitled,
"The Language Learning Style of Children with Autism Spectrum
Disorders: Practical Strategies for Intervention" on
Friday, April 27 at Noon in Bldg. 223, Conference Room B002.
The speaker was Phyllis Kupperman, M.A., CCC-SLP. Ms. Kupperman
is a speech and language pathologist and Executive Director and
Founder of the Center for Speech
and Language Disorders. Ms. Kupperman has followed many
individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome,
Specific Language Impairment and Nonverbal Learning Disorders from
early childhood through young adulthood. In over 40 years
of practice, she has developed strategies to support language and
academic learning dealing with issues related to reading comprehension
thinking and social skills at various levels. Her presentations
at national conventions and workshops have provided practical ideas
and inspiration to parents and professionals. She earned her
B.S. and M.A. degrees in Speech and Language Pathology from the
University of Illinois. She has co-authored articles, videos
and manuals, consulted with public and private schools and served
on college and university faculties.
